The Gait Clinic at Lafayette Physical Rehabilitation Hospital is designed to evaluate patients with amputations and limb deficiencies as well as many other complications that lead to gait instability. This multidisciplinary team of professionals is led by Dr. Carolyn Smith, PM&R. She is a specialist in the field of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and is an expert in the care of patients with limb loss and gait instability. Additionally, the team includes specialists in prosthetics and orthotics and well as physical therapists and occupational therapists. In this way, clinicians can work together, dealing with any problems or issues as a team. Together, this team and the patient develop an individualized comprehensive care plan.
The goal of our program is to develop a comprehensive care plan for each patient, including physical and occupational therapy, prosthetic fitting, referrals to other physicians and referrals to other specialized services.
